Ever set a goal and not hit your target? Haven’t we all.
When it comes to missing the target ask yourself, were you close? Were you very off the mark? Did you even get started? Was the goal attainable in the first place? Did you have the knowledge and resources to support you in achieving your goal? Did you know what to do?
Everyone who has a fitness or health goal has to face the fact that the outcome of this goal will depend largely on the food that you put into your body.
Everyone has their own personal view on food, what’s right, what’s wrong, what works, what does not, what is healthy, what is unhealthy. Food is fuel for some, food is indulgence to others, some use food as a form of punishment, some use it as a form of reward. Where do you stand?
As an accredited health professional and coach it is common for me to be exposed to and uncover a person’s negative views towards food. It is my belief that a negative mindset surrounding food can never lead to a positive life. But the problem doesn’t just lie there.
The view that a person has towards their food, and their relationship that they have with food more often than not relates directly to the views that a person has on themselves, the relationship that a person has with themselves. The positive or negative thought beliefs surrounding how much you value and respect yourself, and why.
So ask yourself the question, how you feel about yourself, and what will motivate you to take care of yourself?
Yes, food is fuel, but it is also so much more than that. Food is a celebration of life, by eating you are celebrating being alive, simply being alive is the greatest gift in the world! You are given the opportunity every day to make a reality any single dream that your mind creates.
A positive mindset can achieve anything and by changing your mindset, this changes everything!
Think of your body as a high-performance race car, and think of the finish line as your goals. To get to the finish line in the quickest way possible you need a good quality fuel and you need the right amount of it.
Not only does good food optimise your body, but it also improves mood and brain function.
With good brain function you can make precious decisions throughout the day and stay on track to working on achieving your goals.
Visual Map for Goal Setting –
Having clear goals is like having a GPS for life.
Make sure that you take the time to set specific goals. Making random goals constantly that you never have any intention to achieve works only as a detriment to yourself. Every time you say that you are going to do a task that you do not actually complete, this ends up mentally wearing you down. So set aside the time to ask yourself WHAT DO YOU REALLY WANT, and set small, specific achievable goals. Forward progress is always better than no progress.
For instance, if you have said that want to lose weight this year and you lose 1 kilogram or 1% body fat technically you have achieved your goal, but is that what you actually wanted to achieve? Did you actually want to lose 5kgs or drop a dress size?
My advice. Be specific with your goals. Make them clear as day. The sharper the arrow, the more precious the target.
We are all capable of doing extraordinary things. With persistence and consistency, there is no reason not to achieve your goals.
Stay Awesome!
